Research platforms that integrate with Slack and Microsoft Teams: survey links, alerts, shared clips and cited answers

TL;DR

  • Dovetail, Qualtrics, SurveyMonkey, UserTesting and Alchemic document both Slack and Microsoft Teams integrations.
  • What arrives is one of four things: a survey link, an event alert, a shared clip, or a cited answer to a typed question.
  • Office 365 connectors in Teams were disabled between 18 and 22 May 2026, so any integration built on them had to move to Workflows.
  • Pick by payload and by what the answer can cite, not by the logo.

Quick Answer: Research platforms that integrate with both Slack and Microsoft Teams in 2026 include Dovetail, Qualtrics, SurveyMonkey, UserTesting and Alchemic. What arrives differs: a survey link, a response alert, a shared clip, or a cited answer to a typed question. Teams integrations built on Office 365 connectors stopped working on 22 May 2026, so check the mechanism before the logo.

The average Microsoft 365 user receives 153 Teams messages every weekday and is interrupted every two minutes by a meeting, an email or a notification, according to Microsoft's 2025 telemetry. An insights team choosing a Slack or Teams integration is choosing which of those 153 messages will carry the research. That is the whole decision.

That choice is now a budget line. In the Insight250 State of the Industry survey, published by the Insights Association, 49 percent of research leaders said they were investing in distribution tools to update stakeholders with actionable insights. Another 38 percent named insufficient data integration as one of their biggest hurdles.

The vendor logos on an integrations page do not answer the question. Five platforms can all say "works with Slack and Teams" and deliver five different things.

Which Research Platforms Integrate With Both Slack and Teams?

Dovetail, Qualtrics, SurveyMonkey, UserTesting and Alchemic each document a Slack integration and a Microsoft Teams integration on their own help pages. Great Question and Sprig document Slack; Great Question's Microsoft integration is a calendar and call-location connection rather than a Teams channel app, and Sprig's help center had no Teams integration page when checked on 9 September 2026.

Every integration on that list belongs to one of four classes, and the class matters more than the vendor:

  • Survey distribution. The platform sends a survey link or an embedded survey into a channel or a direct message.
  • Event alerts. A response, a completed test or a closed study triggers a message into a chosen channel.
  • Shared artifacts. A link to a clip, highlight or note unfurls with a preview, sometimes with playable video.
  • A typed question, answered. A person mentions the platform's bot in a channel and gets a summary with citations drawn from the connected research.

The first three push research at people. The fourth waits for someone to ask. That distinction decides whether the integration adds signal or adds to the 153 messages.

What Does a Research Integration Actually Push Into Slack or Teams?

A research integration pushes one of four payloads into the channel. Those are a survey link, an alert that an event happened, a preview of a research artifact, or an answer to a question with its sources attached. The plumbing underneath is the same for all four, and it changed for Teams in May 2026.

Survey links and response alerts

Qualtrics documents both directions. Its Slack app sends surveys inside Slack and posts a message when responses complete. Its Microsoft Teams task fires a channel message when a survey response is submitted or another account event occurs. The employee-experience product also distributes surveys to teammates through Teams directly.

SurveyMonkey's Connect apps offer quick actions that post response notifications to Slack or Teams, filtered to all responses or to a specific answer choice.

Great Question posts to a designated Slack channel when an interview is scheduled, a screener or survey response lands, a study closes or a transcript becomes available, with a daily digest option. That is an event feed, useful for a research operations team and noisy for anyone else.

Shared clips and previews

UserTesting's Slack integration shares test updates, videos, clips and highlight reels, and its Teams integration shares links to videos and test results. Dovetail unfurls notes, highlights, tags and docs with rich previews in Teams, and a shared highlight plays as an embedded video after a one-time authentication step.

One detail on this class is worth checking before rollout. Great Question hides participant identifiers from Slack previews by default and lets an admin switch them on; not every vendor states its default. Ask before the rollout, not after.

A typed question answered from the repository

Ask Dovetail, sold as an add-on to Dovetail's Enterprise plan since April 2025, lets anyone mention @Dovetail in a Teams or Slack channel and receive an evidence-backed summary, with scheduled audio or text digests daily, weekly or monthly. A workspace admin chooses which projects it can cite. Private projects are excluded.

Alchemic works the same way from the user's side and differs in what sits behind the question. Tag it in Slack, Teams or WhatsApp, ask in plain words, and the reply arrives in about 30 seconds with every claim citing the studies, quotes and respondent counts behind it. Clicking a cited claim opens the underlying respondents, verbatims and voice clips. No other row in this article offers WhatsApp.

The plumbing underneath, and what changed in May 2026

On Slack, most vendor integrations post through an incoming webhook: one unique URL tied to one channel, receiving a JSON payload. Teams that build their own connection through Slack's Workflow Builder should read the fine print: webhook-triggered workflows are available on paid plans only, accept up to 20 custom variables, and are limited to one request per second.

On Teams, the equivalent used to be an Office 365 connector. Microsoft retired those connectors in a rollout that began on 18 May 2026 and completed on 22 May 2026. Four days from start to finish.

The original date was August 2024. Connector webhooks had to migrate to Workflows, built on Power Automate. Migrated messages post under the Flow bot identity with no custom icon or name, and buttons inside MessageCard payloads no longer render, which pushed interactive integrations onto Adaptive Cards.

How Do the Named Platforms Compare on Slack and Teams Support?

The table below reads each vendor's own help documentation as of 9 September 2026. "Documented" means a dedicated page exists. It does not grade quality. Rows are alphabetical.

Platform Slack Microsoft Teams What arrives in the channel Who sets it up
Alchemic Documented Documented A cited answer to a typed question, with respondent counts, quotes and voice clips one click away; also from WhatsApp The workspace is connected as part of the managed setup
Dovetail Documented Documented Rich previews of notes and highlights, playable video, comments; Ask Dovetail answers questions and sends digests (Enterprise add-on) Workspace admin connects Teams, then enables Ask Dovetail and selects projects
Great Question Documented Calendar and call location only Event notifications (interviews, responses, transcripts, study closures) with daily digest; previews hide participant identifiers by default Account owner, per channel
Qualtrics Documented Documented Surveys sent inside Slack; response alerts to Slack and Teams channels; EX surveys distributed through Teams Brand admin connects accounts; workflow tasks per survey. See the comparison with Qualtrics
Sprig Documented No page found Channel-specific sharing of survey insights Account admin
SurveyMonkey Documented Documented Response notifications via quick actions, filterable to a specific answer Survey owner, inside the Connect apps tab
UserTesting Documented Documented Test updates, clips, highlight reels and links to results Account admin

For two common cases another vendor is the better choice. A team whose research already lives in a repository wants Dovetail, because the integration unfurls the notes, highlights and playable video it has been filing for months, and a question-answering bot does not replace that. A research operations team that needs to know the moment a screener response lands wants Great Question's event feed and its daily digest option.

Common Mistakes When Reading an Integrations Page

  • Treating a Microsoft sign-in as a Teams app. A calendar and call-location connection schedules interviews and offers Teams as a meeting venue; it posts nothing into a channel.
  • Assuming the question-answering layer is included. On repository products the sharing and notification integration can be standard while the bot that answers questions is sold separately, as Dovetail's Enterprise add-on shows.
  • Trusting a Teams page written before May 2026. If it still describes an Office 365 connector, the integration may have stopped working on 22 May 2026, whatever the logo grid says.

Where Does the Insight Have to Come From for the Integration to Matter?

The channel is a delivery surface. Nothing more. The value of what it delivers is fixed upstream, by who was interviewed, in what language, through which mode, and whether the platform can still see last year's wave when it answers this year's question.

Where the spend and the demand are moving

The industry's money is already moving to that layer. ESOMAR's Global Market Research 2025 puts research software at 62 billion dollars, growing 11.5 percent in 2024, against a 56 billion dollar market research sector growing 4.8 percent. The software layer between fieldwork and decision is where the growth is, and a Slack answer is the last inch of that layer.

The demand side is just as clear. In the Insight250 survey, 37 percent of organizations still relied on manual processes and ad hoc reporting, 44 percent rated their research tools only somewhat effective, and 51 percent were investing in dashboards. Atlassian's State of Teams 2025, from 12,000 knowledge workers and 200 executives, found teams spend a quarter of the workweek searching for information. A cited answer in the channel where the question was asked removes one of those searches.

What sits behind the answer

What the answer can draw on is the real comparison. Alchemic's knowledge base stitches past studies, live customer-experience channels and uploaded research files into one layer that persists across studies and waves. A question about a segment can pull from the brand-equity wave, the concept test and the six-month-old ethnography PDF at once.

The interviews feeding it run where the respondents are: inside WhatsApp with no link or app, by AI phone call to any number in supported regions, or on the web. The platform publishes 57+ languages including Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, and fieldwork is managed in-house or run on the client's own lists. Studies have run in the USA and the UK as well as across India, the Gulf and Southeast Asia.

Because qualitative and quantitative questions sit in the same interview, the Slack answer can carry both a distribution and the verbatims behind it. A platform that only ingests survey exports returns a number. One that ran the interviews returns the number and the voice clip.

For teams still deciding how research should reach decision makers at all, the earlier piece on turning customer insights into decisions covers the organizational side. The guide to continuous customer research tools covers the always-on model that makes a channel integration worth having.

When Does a Weekly Digest Beat a Live Integration?

A weekly or daily digest beats a live per-event integration in three situations. The audience is not the research team, the response volume runs above a handful a day, or the payload carries respondent-level data. A live integration wins when a decision is waiting on a specific event, such as a tracker wave closing or a concept test hitting its cutoff.

The cost of the live default is measured. Gloria Mark, Daniela Gudith and Ulrich Klocke found in a controlled study that people complete interrupted tasks in less time and at the same quality, but report more stress, higher frustration, more time pressure and more effort.

Microsoft's telemetry puts the interruption interval at two minutes. Research alerts join that queue. A survey platform posting every response into a brand channel is adding to that interval, not to the decision.

Three tests before switching an integration on

  1. Who reads the channel? If it includes people outside the research function, send a digest and keep raw responses behind a login.
  2. What is the volume? Great Question's daily digest option and Dovetail's daily, weekly or monthly digests exist because per-event alerts stop being read past a certain rate. Slack's Workflow Builder rate limit of one request per second is a hard version of the same point for batch exports.
  3. Does the payload identify a respondent? The 2025 revision of the ICC/ESOMAR International Code, recognized by more than 60 associations in over 50 countries, places responsibility on the commissioning client to ensure every contractor complies. Where personal data ends up is part of that. Prefer integrations that strip identifiers from previews and hold verbatims behind a click.

A question-and-answer model sidesteps most of the digest-versus-live choice, because nothing is posted until someone asks, and the person asking has already decided the moment is right. That is the design logic behind both Ask Dovetail and @Alchemic, and it is why the evaluation should focus on what the answer can cite rather than on how often the bot speaks.

Two earlier guides carry the rest of the evaluation: what to check in an insights platform's setup and support and which consumer insights platforms fit a mid-sized team.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Microsoft Teams have a built-in survey function?
Teams includes a Polls app, built on Microsoft Forms, for a single question in a chat or meeting. It is a voting tool, not a research tool: no sampling, no quotas, no open-end analysis. Research platforms integrate with Teams to deliver survey links, alerts or answers from a study run elsewhere; the fieldwork itself does not happen inside Teams.
Do research platform integrations need a paid Slack plan?
Installing a vendor's app depends on the workspace's plan limits, and Slack's own Workflow Builder webhooks are available on paid plans only, limited to one request per second and 20 custom variables. Vendor apps that post through an incoming webhook write to one channel per URL. Confirm which route the vendor uses before assuming a free workspace is enough.
What happened to Teams integrations built on Office 365 connectors?
Microsoft disabled Office 365 connectors in Teams between 18 and 22 May 2026 after several deadline extensions. Connector webhooks had to move to Workflows, built on Power Automate. Migrated messages post under the Flow bot identity, custom icons and names are not supported, and buttons in MessageCard payloads no longer work, so vendors that relied on them moved to Adaptive Cards.
Is it safe to post respondent-level data into a shared channel?
Only when the channel is limited to people who need it. The 2025 ICC/ESOMAR Code makes the commissioning client responsible for ensuring contractors comply, and where personal data ends up is part of that duty. Prefer integrations that hide participant identifiers from previews by default, post digests rather than raw responses, and keep verbatims behind a click that requires a login.
Can a research repository be queried from Slack or Teams?
Yes. A class of integrations answers a typed question with a summary and citations drawn from the connected studies, and can schedule digests on a set cadence. Before relying on one, check which projects are included, whether private projects are excluded, how each answer cites its sources, and whether a reader can open the underlying transcript or clip from the channel.
